Everything You Need to Know to Feel Confident, Calm, and Camera-Ready
Planning a brand photoshoot is one of the most exciting steps in growing your business — but let’s be honest, it can also feel a bit overwhelming.
As a branding photographer, I’ve worked with all kinds of amazing business owners: coaches, creatives, fitness instructors, stylists, makers, and more. And guess what? Most of them ask the same question before we shoot:
“What do I need to do to prepare?”
Don’t worry — I’ve got you. This guide will help you feel totally prepared (and even excited!) for your shoot so we can capture photos that truly reflect your personality, professionalism, and passion.
1. Define Your Brand Style & Message
Before you pick outfits or props, take a moment to reflect on your brand’s identity:
What do you want people to feel when they see your photos?
What do you want your images to say about you?
Are you more polished and elegant? Bold and edgy? Casual and relatable?
Your answers will help shape your location, wardrobe, props, and the overall vibe of the shoot.
TIP: Create a mini mood board (Pinterest is great!) with colours, poses, and styles that speak to your brand.
2. Choose Outfits That Feel Like You
You don’t need a whole new wardrobe — just outfits that feel like the best version of yourself.
Choose 2–3 outfits with variety (e.g., smart-casual, colourful, something simple and classic).
Stick to your brand colours or neutral tones.
Avoid busy patterns, logos, or neon colours.
Think about accessories and layers (jackets, hats, scarves) to add interest.
And don’t forget comfy shoes if we’ll be walking around a location!
3.Bring Props That Reflect What You Do
Props help tell your story and make your photos feel more natural. Think about what you use or create in your day-to-day work.
Here are some ideas:
Laptop or phone (for coaches, creatives, online businesses)
Coffee mug or notebook (great for relaxed shots)
Products you sell or tools you use
Branded materials like business cards or packaging
Flowers, plants, or books for styling
I’ll help you style and place these on shoot day — no need to overthink it!
4. Choose the Right Location
Where we shoot matters. It should match your brand vibe.
You can choose:
Your workspace or home office
A rented studio with props
A local café or co-working space
Outdoors — parks, streets, markets, or urban spots
If you're not sure, I can recommend locations based on your brand style.
5. Pamper Yourself (Yes, Please!)
You want to feel your absolute best on camera. Here’s what helps:
Get a good night’s sleep the night before
Drink plenty of water
Consider booking hair and makeup for a polished look
Bring a little makeup bag for touch-ups (powder, lipstick, etc.)
6. Know What You’ll Use the Photos For
Are these images for your:
Website home/about/contact pages?
Instagram posts or stories?
LinkedIn or email marketing?
Printed materials or business cards?
Knowing this helps me shoot intentionally for your layout, crop, and purpose — and ensures you walk away with useful, not just pretty, photos.
Final Tip: Don’t Stress — I’ve Got You
It’s totally normal to feel nervous, but I’ll guide you every step of the way — from posing to styling to choosing the best angles. The goal is to capture the real you in a way that feels relaxed, authentic, and aligned with your business.
